Holiday Blues Weekend

Saturday December 12th Classes

12:30-1:00 Check-In and Warm-Up

Come early to sign in and dance a few songs before classes start.

1:00-2:00 Posture

Tim and Mallory
Posture is the basis of a good connection, and connection is the soul of the Blues. We will be teaching technique while playing a number of really fun games aimed at getting you to listen to your partner and to your own body. This class is great for getting back into blues space if you have not been dancing in a while, but also works for those who are new to the dance.

2:15-3:15 All Things In Balance

Campbell and Chris
Gotta stand on your own feet before you can dance. Here we'll walk you through the basics of balance, including weight shifts, turning, body positioning, and more. Gain the confidence to be secure in your own posture and how to transfer that stability to your partner.

3:30-4:30 Sweeps

Tim and Chris
Leads, time to be manly men! Tim and Chris will show the leads how to use your strength and control to create powerful, sweeping motions with your partner. Learn how to shape your dance and make your follow look and feel elegant.

4:45-5:45 Welcome to the Matrix

Tim and Mallory
So now that you got some Blues moves, how do you make them stand out, linger, stretch, and fit this awesome music? Learn to stretch your movements, your body, and your connection. This is the unique element that makes Blues so rich. Who knows, perhaps you will be push the limits of time and space? Are you ready to step into the Blues matrix?

5:45-6:00 Wrap-Up

Sunday December 13th Classes

12:30-1:00 Check-In and Warm-Up

Come early to sign in and dance a few songs before classes start.

1:00-2:00 Micro Blues

Tim and Mallory
Micro Blues is a popular style found all over the US and especially in the continental Northwest. The focus is on the smaller and subtler movements of the body. We will be working on alternate points of connection that will strengthen and refine it so that the smallest movement transfers to your partner. Don't let the "Micro" fool you: this style has a tremendous range, from lazy and relaxed to fast and intense.

2:15-3:15 Break On Through to the Other Side

Campbell and Chris
Leads: ever thought the follows have it easy? Follows: ever wanted to show the leads how it's done? Now's your chance! In this class, we'll focus on role reversal, and try to give you a little insight into how the other side lives. Who knows? Maybe you'll take back a greater appreciation of your partner....

3:30-4:30 Following Secrets

Campbell and Mallory
Follows, here we'll reveal (almost) all our secrets to making you the best follow you can be. And leads, you won't just be eye candy -- you'll learn to open up and give the follows space to contribute to both the partnership and the dance.

4:45-5:45 Dynamics of Musicality

Tim and Mallory
One of the hardest things to teach is inspiration and insight. Now, we can't give this to you, but we can offer you the ideas and mechanics to start exploring and creating your own musical interpretations. We start with a short amalgamation and adapt it to different types of music. This class will focus on four elements of musicality: Tempo, Range, Tension, and Elevation.
